1. Shape

First, we mold the clay into the shape we want, using a variety of clay shaping tools. Iris likes using the rib tool to make precise cuts. It's important to keep the clay wet at this stage, otherwise the clay dries out quickly and becomes more difficult to work with.

Then, we let the pieces completely air dry. When the piece is no longer cold to the cheek, it is time to bisque fire the clay so that no water remains in the piece.

3. Glaze

Once the pieces are done bisque firing and cool down to room temperature, they are ready for glazing! This is the most fun part - being able to mix glazes and add details to the surface of the piece.

When the glaze has dried, the pieces are then thrown back into the kiln to be fired again. This time, depending on the type of glaze used, we typically fire to Cone 05 or Cone 5.

5. Luster (optional)

We have yellow and white gold lusters, which can be applied after the glaze firing. These glazes fire at a much lower temperature, and also much more quickly.
